Breakfast- that wonderful time of day when you get to set your goals and intentions for the day. The more goodness you put in here, the better prepared you'll be for whatever life throws at you. I'm just going to put it out there as I know plenty may not agree but I LOVE SEEDS.

I am no nutritionist and I can't tell you which seed will help what but I do know they plant an element of feel good and a dose of healthy eating mindset.

I never go without breakfast. A bold statement I know. Productivity, brain power, will power, mental and physical strength- they are all sponsored by a good breakfast.

Currently my days are pretty much the same. That's the nature of job seeking at a time when jobs aren't readily available. Apply, search, apply, search, read another rejection, reach out to another contact, research more skill set enhancement. And start again. It's the combination of the exercise, the fresh air and the good food that gets me through. If I wasn't doing these things- I would crack. The good food propels the exercise and vice versa. The exercise and the food propel the thought process around well-being. Breakfast will power you through. It fuels and feeds the brain. There's something therapeutic around the preparation and wild satisfaction in the eating.

Porridge. A good juice. A smoothie. A protein shake. A good pancake. Or maybe overnight oats. Clearly not altogether but definitely always at least one. So larder necessities first:

  1. Good oats and Flahavans are lifers

  2. Chia seeds are an excellent source of fiber, which can improve heart health, reduce cholesterol levels and promote intestinal health

  3. Golden Linseeds- perfect for sprinkling but don't overdo them as quite fibrous if you do use, make sure with plenty of water! Did you know they have a stabilising effect on oestrogen levels so can be helpful for symptoms of the menopause. Make your own jar mix by adding sunflower & pumpkin seeds.

  4. Dessicated coconut, great for adding a bit of crunch, again as a sprinkler

  5. Protein collagen- I love www.doseandco.comsimply because it's the lightest powder and mixes with anything as long as there's enough fluid.

  6. A good granola sits beautifully on top of a pancake and a recent find from https://www.hollandandbarrett.com/their Keto Granola. (Did I mention that H&B is my absolute favourite store)

  7. A full fruit bowl- regularly featured in my posts- there are millions of ways to use up old fruit.

Just to ease you in and only when you have time to try, overnight oats give the best feel good. I think part of this stems from the fact you go out of your way to prepare the night before( it's easy to make a bigger batch and use over 2-3 days). There's something mentally satisfying in it.

So, in an airtight container, add 250ml of milk (I use oat), 75g of oats, 1 tablespoon of linseed, 1 tablespoon of chia seed, 1 small finely grated carrot, 1 coarsely grated apple, a pinch of salt , 15g of raisins and 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon. Optional- mix in a dollop of natural yoghurt. Mix well and put in fridge overnight. It takes 5 minutes to prepare. The enjoyment is real.

And if you're grating carrot anyway, why not make some carrot & raisin muffins....

Breakfast is a staple. It's the most wonderful time of the day to feed your brain and your insides. The more you put in at breakfast, the more joy you'll find in your day and the more well you put into your being. Small, even tiny steps, can be monumental in changing habits. Life-changing even. Breakfast is literally well-being medicine.

Do let me know if there's anything you'd like to put on my radar when it comes to breakfast. And hopefully overnight oats is now firmly on yours...
